Independence Day: We're All Just Human

It strikes me that I bet this time last year, the rwNJ blogosphere was as full of "this President sucks!" memes and rants as the left-wing blogosphere is today. Different face, different excuse, same sentiment.

I loathe humanity, but love people, because not-so-deep under the skin, we're all just human.

Happy Independence Day, America!

May you be wise enough to keep what the blood of others bought you.

Hey, Tuesday: I Woke Up This Morning - Who's Laughing Now, Bitch?

Some mornings, I wake from warm dreams to the nightmare of a screwed up world, with horrible people Hellbent on making it worse. Days like that, only self-discipline and the warm body next to me give me the motivation to wake up. Specifically, the promise I made to him that I would wake up every day. There were witnesses, and there is video, so it's not like I can recant my promise.

Then, wrapped in global loathing and personal self-pity, seeking to avoid my promise, I bury my face against him. That contact reminds me that, damnit, there are good things in the world. There are things worth fighting for. That Evil wins if Good does nothing, blah, blah, whatever. Evil can wait five minutes. There are good things right here, in my little universe: hugs, smiles, laughter, cookies, puppies, sunshine.

He didn't hear me as I renewed my promise with a whisper in his ear. In the end, I woke up, not for the promises of the past, but for the promises yet to come; because it was worth doing. I rose, ready to embrace the day; only time would tell if the day itself survives to regret another failed attempt to stop me.

Monday the 13th - Aiiigh!

Happy Monday the 13th!

It's 10/13/2014, or 10/13/14 here in the United States (you know, the Center of the Universe) as I write this, which means 13-Oct-2014 or 13/10/2014 to most of the rest of the world (you unwashed heathens).

Global notational differences (and absurdist self-mockery about US self-importance) aside, it's Monday and it's the 13th! Aigh!

Monday the 13th is like the cranky grandmother to Friday the 13th, and she hasn't had her morning gin yet.

Monday the 13th is the mother of Tuesdays - yeah, all of them, which is why Tuesdays are so malicious.

And now you know! Be careful out there. You woke up this morning, which is good, but this morning is an evil omen all by itself!

Today is Tuesday - always a good day to lose my mind

Today feels like a lovely day to lose my mind.

Maybe that's because it's Tuesday.

Long time readers of my old Facebook rants know that Tuesday and I have a long-standing relationship. For years, it was pure antagonism, but recently we've reconciled.  I suspect me hiring the hobgoblin mercenaries had a lot to with it. Or maybe it was the laisez-faire attitude I decided to adopt, because I was tired of the fight. It's much easier to be laisez-faire from inside the blanket fort, especially when you keep the 40-watt plasma rifle warm.

I'm not really insane. I just see the world differently. Sometimes, I turn my head one way, and I see the mess created by human selfishness and naivety and it hurts so much, I want to scream, cry, or both.

Other times, I turn my head the other way, and just laugh. Genuine laughter, at the amazing and complicated world we live in. The universe is stunning, especially if you study a lot of science, and really grasp what you are seeing.

Some people call me "silly." I'm fine with that, since generally I enjoy life more than most people.

So, I guess I don't think I'll lose my mind today. But, maybe I will take it out and play fetch with it. Let it run a little, and dig under the porch. Yeah, that's the ticket. Of course, I did get it micro-chipped so even if it gets lost, someone will bring it home.

Happy Tuesday!

Death By Tuesday

Died on a Tuesday. Well, my FB account died anyway. Of course it was a Tuesday. Not that you can see any of my old FB posts, but long time friends know I have a long-standing war with Tuesday. Very metaphysical. Bastard Tuesday ambushed me just when I was starting to feel good about it.
