Spreading COVID-19 in the United States

The United States of "You call that a pandemic? Hold my beer!"

I was looking at the CNN COVID-19 spread webpage again today, and got annoyed how the logarithmic chart they use makes it look like the spread is slowing down (not their intention, but most people don't understand logarithmic charts).  So, I dug around to find one that shows it in linear scale, instead.

Then I thought I'd mock it up, to really try to spell it out for the slow kids in the classroom.

"You can't cure stupid."  - Old axiom
"...but maybe a virus can kill it."  - COVID-19 corollary

Very nearly everything wrong with 2019 in one image

This reminds me of that goody fake game show in Time Bandits, which I was also reminded of when reading the Shadowrun game vision of the future in which game shows and sitcoms often involve people dying.  And then we have Hunger Games, right?  Humans love their blood sports, just as long as it's someone else dying, and we can pretend the oligarchs get their comeuppance in the end, even though we know bloody well that they don't.

But humans also love their sex. And love viewing women as sex objects, right? I mean, history shows this, and #MeToo wasn't some spontaneous outrage, but was really backlash against the unraveling of progress in equality since the 1960s. It's beem really stunning how equality has been unwound and now avowed sexual predators sit in the White House and appoint an accused sexual predator and emotionally unstable asshole, to the Supreme Court, while enabling sociopaths in the Senate overrule the will of the American people to support both scum.

Americans love to think of women as sex objects, and all too often, we women have accepted this, and bought into it, and been broken down by it.

I've always thought of Howie Mandel as just plain weird. I don't know of anything particularly wrong with him.

But, the advert image says "Here is Howie! See Howie! This show is about Howie! Oh, and come and see the parade of skin-tone diverse, basic body type-identical eye candy we parade every day behind Howie!"

Yeah, lovely pandering to base interests there, people. Yuck.

The Right have dragged the Left down (almost)

Gum flapper on the radio:
"This week has been full of the hatred on the left for anyone not just like them."

Yes, asshole, because after 30 years of slime like Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reillly and Alex Jones telling lies and unjustly and inaccurately (sometimes inarticulately) villainizing and mischaracterizing the Left, those bleeding heart nice peoole have finally crawled down into the cess hole with you because it was the only way to reaxh tou inside your echo chamber.

Congratulations, you've dragged everyone down to your pathetic loathsome, dear God your grandparents would be embarassed to see you, boorish, moronic level.

So take your misguided self-congratulatory arrogance and shove it up your ass next to your head.

Sinclair Broadcasting: Fuck Them Back

Ultra-Fuck America Corportist Propaganda media company Sinclair Broadcasting Group is public stock.

That means, for about 40 bucks, you can buy a share, and get the annual stockholder report, get other special insider reports, and have a say in who sits on the Board of Controlling Assholes.

Okay, for one share, you don't get so say shit about who sits on the Board, but here's the trick: You do get a ticket into the annual shareholders meeting.

Once you're inside, you don't have to advertise how many shares you own. You just act like a grown-up. You act like you own the place. You express your dissatisfaction with the current Board. You sow all kinds of dissent and fuckery. You meet up with other socially conscious shareholders. You learn what the Board of Assholes is up to and leak it to the world to undermine their underhanded fuckery.

For about $40 and a couple days a year, you can fuck with the biggest American fucking assholes in the world.

I just bought myself a pile of shares, because I'm tired of this shit, and I'm fighting back.

This from NBC News

The source video from Deadspin. It really is creepy.

How important is a fast reply to text messages?

My retort to this blog posting. And I'll be frank, this came out of a fight I just had with a friend who got pissy that someone hadn't responded to every single text for 12 hours.  Okay, it was just a handful, but 12 hours later, the reply came back, failed to address every single text, and it had been twelve  hours, because "No one waits 12 hours to reply to text!"  Um, yeah, for example, *I* do. Except with friends that I know have serious damage - and get pissy - about not getting fast replies.

So, the linked post, ...

On the one hand, amusing. On the other hand, I'm not going to be a slave to the gadget in my pocket. I'm not going to sacrifice my life for async experiences, where huge chunks of time are wasted waiting for a response. If it's important, CALL ME. At least, then I have a full bandwidth conversation, in real-time, instead of splitting my focus with having to type at 1/8 the speed I can talk constantly interrupting whatever is going on around me, for example playdate with my niece or nephew at the park.

That means, if it takes me days, or never, to reply to your text message, that I'm not a fan of text messages, and it has nothing to do with how much I care about you. Text messages are convenient for async leave-me-a-message-and-I-will-reply.

Text messages are not "real-time," in any sense of the phrase. Text messages are time wasters on a scale that Faceborg can't hope to compete.

So, "what it actually means"? Not a damn thing, unless you want to measure servitude to a gadget, or servitude to people who can't be bothered to call you, or drive to meet you somewhere.

Male. Nerd. Snowflakes. - Please Grow Up

Ah, male nerd snowflakes.

"Oh, no! A male comic book villain is now played by a woman in the movie!  Fucking Feminazis ruin all my childhood nerdboy memories!"

Really?  Seriously, snowflake, if you're that sensitive, the problem is not with the people who made the film, manchild: the problem is you.

Ugh.

And then, when you read the comments on the OP, it becomes even more clear, that it's a nerdboy problem, because Ghost was an Iron Man villain, so

"Oooooh, horror!  They ported an Iron Man villain into an Ant Man movie and ruined the movie before I've even seen it!"

Oh, for fuck's sake.  Grow up.

On a final note:

I am so fucking seeing this movie in theaters :-)

Trump, Weinstein and the Brave Women who rattled the pillars of Heaven

I agree and disagree with Ms Dietz.  She has a  specific and focused point, but misses the bigger picture that the massive cultural shift required for Spacey's career to have been destroyed so quickly, first required that all those women pave the way for it to have happened.

Trump was accused by 15 women of crimes worse than Weinstein.  Same with Cosby (Cosby worse than Weinstein - holy shit, have you seen the current list against Cosby?!).  But, if those women had not come forth - and received death threats, and worse - shifting the public awareness and perception to the reality of the problem - then Weinstein's accusers - famous and beloved as they are - would have been shit on, instead of accepted at face value.

Without Weinstein going down in flames, Spacey's accuser would have been dismissed and ignored (as other men were in years past). Instead, the brave women who came forward with their stories of how Cosby, Trump and Weinstein perpetrated sexual misconduct, made it possible for Spacey's accuser to be taken seriously, and for the response that happened.

Ms Dietz makes a totally valid point that in 2017, the word of men is still treated more seriously than the word of women.  However, it is also extremely important to recognize the successful and massive cultural shift made possible by the women who came before him.

Kevin Spacey

I had drafted a post about what Kevin Spacey actually said.  That is, what he said, and not what people have decided he said.

Then, I realized about 97% of readers would pick fights with the noise in their own heads, and take that out on me (because people are selfish that way), while only about 3% actually read what I wrote.

In other words, 97% of people whose eyeballs saw that I had written something, would waste their time - and my energy - by shouting at me for something that was their own fault, anyway.

This post is about how much human selfishness and stupidity annoys me.

(And for the slow thinkers in the room, I'll spell this out now, before someone tries to make hay where there isn't any. Sexual assault is wrong. Sexually assaulting minors is absolutely wrong. Hell had a special place for anyone who preys on children.  This blog post isn't about sexual assault. I certainly don't forgive the act of harming a minor, and being drunk makes it worse, not better.)

Fiction Friday: Horror, Kink, or Both?

Long time readers know that humans fascinate me.  From the amazing highs and despicable lows, to the quirky and the just plain weird (and weirder).  So, no surprise this image pops up here, right?

(I have no idea where this came from,
but memo to self: never, ever, ever - no really, not ever Google "American Horror Story" again!)

I could actually see that being a real woman, and a real scene from some kind of movie. Either real horror, or real kink. I mean, lots of people have disfiguring injuries these days, and so many filmmakers need content, there are lots of opportunities for unusual body types.

Well, that and lots of people are into weird shit. I mean, there is an actual fetish/mental disorder associated with sexual attraction to having body parts removed. So, Hell, that could be a real woman acting in a niche Internet film.

Hell, the background even reminds me of "SAW" (I've seen still photos, because, you know, I'm insane enough to have Googled "SAW").

Anyway, since this is a #FictionFriday post, what derangement do you see?

Life is not binary, it is possible to chase multiple offenses at the same time

Americans suck at complicated thinking. Americans want everything to be black and white, right or wrong, this or not, but it doesn't work that way.  This leads to stupid memes like this one, which presents the idea that it has to be "one or the other, but can't be both."  Wrong. It can be both, and it can be even more complicated than that.  Welcome to the world of grown-ups.

The Primaries got investigated already - it may have been immoral and unethical - but it was legal - that horse sailed, get over it. With the caveat that lessons need to be learned, so it doesn't happen again.

The same goes for GOP suppression of voting - Trump spent all summer bitching the election was "rigged" against him, and then flip-flopped the instant it looked like he'd have an Electoral College win. Voter suppression still needs to be investigated, along with gerrymandering and other bullshit. Again, a lot of this is "legal," but immoral, unethical and total bullshit, by any rational standard.

The Russian connection is illegal and needs to be investigated. Amazing, though, how the New Fuhrer President is doing everything he can to shutdown the investigations - and suppress the due process, and suppress the rule of law.  Even Republican lawmakers want it investigated.

Yes, I found a meme, and I hacked it up. Let me know if the yellow color (the color of piss, but really just a halfway decent contrast) works, or if you have suggestions for a better color choice.

Ain't Got Time To Bleed - Class Warfare Doesn't Sleep

I think he covered just about everything and wrapped it up with that evocative tagline. Nice.

Oh, we mock celebrities, but we also worship them (cough Trump cough).  And let's face it, sometimes it takes the eye-grabbing mechanism of a celebrity to get people to stand still for 30 seconds and pay attention. Once attention is grabbed, then maybe the message can be delivered. Gov Ventura is actually quite articulate and had some decent policies during his tenure.

He has a good message here. The big thing he does is appeal to everyone. His message isn't "conservative" nor "liberal" - his message is "We The People Are Fed Up!"

It's a good message. Slap people who split hairs about it, instead of paying attention to the substance (e.g. food genomes are patented, not copyrighted [yet, anyway]).

Women's March 2017

Just to repeat for the slow learners in the room (who, sadly, also like to congratulate themselves for their dull-witted ideas), the Women's March 2017 was never, ever, about trying to change the election results. That ship sailed people, you're the only ones still stuck in the past.

The Women's March 2017 has always been about making sure Trump knows his bullshit stinks and we're not going to sit by while he smears his shit all over the country.

It was one thing when he was bullshitting you slow thinkers - it was kind of funny watching you cheer how good you smelled after wallowing in his bullshit.

But, the game changed, didn't it? Yeah, and you slow-thinkers still haven't caught on to how it changed. Trump isn't going to stop shitting on you. He's going to do it more and harder and to all the rest of us, too

Come on, slow-learners. Catch up - we've moved on to making sure Trump and his billinaire swamp monkey cronies know we recognize tolitarian bullshit and we didn't tolerate it in 1945 and we're not putting up with it today.

Any questions? Class dismissed.

You Love Trump - Jesus is Weeping

FUCK YOU, AMERICA!

45% of the electorate is embracing racism, bigotry, ignorance, tax-evasion, draft-dodging, hatred, arrogance, religious dogma over science, destruction of the planet we all live on, pride in rape and sexual assault, homophobia, philandering, lying, meaning marriages, cheating, scamming, inciting violence, calling for murder of opponents, bankrupting small businesses, nakedly declaring to let the poor starve and die -

ALL OF THESE THINGS ARE WHAT DONALD TRUMP HAS DONE AND CALLED UPON YOU TO DO - AND 45% OF YOU EMBRACE THIS!

45% OF YOU ARE IMMORAL TURDS
WHO HAVE DECLARED YOUR LOVE FOR THE DEVIL!

JESUS IS WEEPING.

Act Like An Asshole

I like this meme. I've addressed this topic before.  The problem is that people suck at forgiveness. We like to feel self-righteous and angry.  It makes us feel important (while at the same time simply revealing us to be petty and insecure).

Frankly, Mr Eastwood has done incredible things with filmmaking, and I hope that's how he is remembered.  Even assholes can create great artworks, and the world needs more great artists.

I like NPR - the last bastion of intelligent journalism

It concerns me when I hear people describe NPR as "too liberal." A number of studies have shown that NPR, by and large, walks a very fine line balancing the various "sides." They have to, since Congress controls their funding, and a perceived bias is a problem, let alone a real bias.

The point I'm getting to: how skewed have our perceptions become of "liberal" or "conservative" media that a properly balanced outlet is perceived as biased? In my worldview, this says that the elitist elements are winning the war on our perceptions and convincing us that "Right is right," or (and I prefer this one) our own natural filters of what we like and dislike are interfering with our ability to actually hear what is being said. By the latter, I mean if I prefer stories with a bias, then exposure to those without my bias will chaff my butt, and I will presume a bias on the broadcaster even when none exists.

(Note, I refer to them as "elitists" since, in my considered opinion, these elements are purely opportunistic more than either progressive or conservative, and therefore neither appellation is the proper one to use.)

Here’s how you can use the ‘Facebook effect’ to stop Donald Trump

From the article:
Although one can still choose to not participate in the discussion, a recent scientific study shows that if one wants the political candidate they support to win, they need to join in. We have all heard the rallying cry “Your vote counts.” Now that can be extended to “Your Facebook comments count.”

I'm so depressed now.  Basically, by posting the shit out of something, we can influence what others think about it - positive, or negative - in a real and tangible way.

That means, when I rant against Trump, or for Clinton, or against rape, or for D&D, then I'm influencing how other people think about these same things.

I always knew my writings were mind worms, but that was really just me being meta and all that shit.  The truth is that it's not meta, it's real.  And the more the mindless idiots of the world cheer on Trump, even if they're spreading total bullshit, the more mindless idiots fall in love with someone who is a total farce.

That kind of shit is just freaky.

Equally freaky is how easily I was able to share this. The website managers provided a really handy little button form me to click.  Now, I've spread the word about their word, and the word is the bird, and the bird is flying up your nose.

Vote! Where to get credible information on the US Candidates

VOTE as if your personal future, and the future of your children and grandchildren depends on it - because it does!  I want this to be a Really Useful resource for finding credible information on the web.  Throw some more sites in the comments section, and I'll update this list.

Some reliable resources to get info on the candidates

It is human nature that we want to believe what makes us feel good. If you're one of those people who is all like "liberals lie and you can't trust any website that says bad things about 'conservatives' and never reveals that all 'liberals' are evil baby-rapers out to take my guns away!" then I can't help you.  You won't listen to anything I say anyway. In fact, if you're one of those kind of people, then you're beyond help, and please, please, please stay home on November 8 to stop Obama from coming for your guns!

Some total bullshit and farcical resources to get information about anything
  • News Max - read anything on their site - it's loaded with emotional buzz words to  wind you up and confuse you.  Total bullshit.
  • Breitbart - these people have been caught lying so many times, it's really a sad commentary on human nature that this site still exists;
  • Fox News - these people have been caught lying so many times, it's really a sad commentary on human nature that this site still exists.  Occasionally, they accidentally say something true, and frequently the fools that do wander off the talking points and say something true get fired for it..

Vote! Vote for anyone EXCEPT Trump!

VOTE as if your personal future, and the future of your children and grandchildren depends on it - because it does!

This is America.  I want you to vote.  I want to see the biggest fucking voter turnout in history.  I almost don't even care if you vote for candidates I personally loathe - just turnout and vote.

Although, remember, it is important whom you vote for as well as against.

We can't afford to be stupid and say "Oh, I'm going to protest by shirking my right and privilege to make my voice heard, to stand up for what I believe in, and to get my ass out and vote!"

I mean, seriously, we need to all be #AngryGrrls4Bernie - and if Secretary Clinton gets nominated, then get your ass out and vote for her, because Trump will fuck your ass over.

Donald Trump is one of the worse and most embarrassing things to ever happen to American politics.  Seriously, he's an embarrassment, and his incredible success in the polls and running as the candidate shows how insane and fucked up - and a humiliating joke -  the American electoral system has become.

Trump isn't making a mockery of the electoral system - he's playing by the rules we've been taught to buy into and showing us what a fucking joke they already are!

Trump has stripped away the veneer of civility and decorum from the entire American society. He's ripped back the scab to reveal the festering rot of racism and cockroaches we all are.  How we have an eight-second attention span, and will buy any lie - no matter how patently false - that a charismatic snake oil salesmen presents to us in a bold, confident voice.  That we won't bother to fact-check, that we won't believe the facts when told to us - that we want to be lied to and we want to believe the lies - because we're ignorant little tits.

So, get your ass out and VOTE - VOTE FOR ANYONE EXCEPT TRUMP!

The movie "Idiocracy" wasn't a satire, it was a prophecy.  In that dystopian future, the President is a joke, the country is a joke (they use Gatorade to water farms, instead of water), and everyone cheers and jeers when the entertainer-in-the-White-House tells them to.

Anyone who wants to try taking the morale high ground with me over "calling Trump names," has lost that battle before starting, so don't even try.

Trump has convinced everyone his name means "quality" and "success."  But the truth is that his "success" as the iconic American entrepreneur really just means "Yeah, I failed again and again, but I keep trying again and again, therefore - Trump means success,  because I say so!"

Being born a multi-millionaire makes it a LOT easier to "fail and fail again," until finally getting it right once in a while.

It wasn't so long ago that I vented my spleen that people compared American political figures to Hitler.  How naïve I was just a year ago.

And finally, let's just talk about how he conducts himself in public. Trump is currently a mere entertainer. If we make this asshole the Leader of the Free World, he represents All of America. His personal conduct and opinions are no longer his own - they represent All of Us.

Trump - the hate machine's double standard of his sordid past

I'm so glad this is a meme.

But the answer is still "Noooo, because 1) Trump is white, 2) the power-behind-the-throne people at Fox like Mr Trump (oh, sure, they bash him publicly, but they're still in bed with him)."

And let's not forget how the well-organized, and well-funded RWnj hate spin machine ran stories and stories about Rev Wright.

Free Starbucks Coffee for Veterans, I say

I think Starbucks and Subway should each start a policy of freebies for veterans. Just send a bit of documentation to corporate, and receive a coupon book good for one sandwich, or one coffee, per year of Service and per Medal or Honor received.  Re-apply annually for a new coupon book.

This is pure marketing gold. Show support for America's most courageous and loyal (yes, even those who enter Service just for job training are braver than those pussies who carry assault rifles at Wal-Mart to buy cookies), and get more butts in the store.  Once the butt is in the store, it's nothing to upsell and make a little scratch from the deal.

McDonald's could even go one better, with one free meal per day to vets. Just keep a local store logbook to make sure it's not being abused.

Have a "vets get priority" seating section, and put up signs saying "If our vets are homeless, whose fault is that?"

Let's get our priorities straight and make profits secondary to where our mouths are.
